Isolation is a terrible consequence of having an illness that is
as misunderstood as ME/CFS. But isolation does not have to destroy
us. Increasingly, I am encouraged by the spirit and optimism that I
see in the CFS/ME community. In April nearly 4,000 people
downloaded free copies of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Treatment
Guide, bringing the total of free downloads to over 13,000. This is a sign that tens of thousands of people are reaching out,
looking for ways to heal themselves.
The level of cooperation that it took to reach this goal was
impressive. Hundreds of individuals with CFS/ME posted the free book
on their Facebook pages, on blogs, on forums, and on boards. They
wrote reviews and passed the message along, and they reached
thousands of people. Thousands of people felt less isolated, less
abandoned. They had hope.
